1. GST Evasion at Record Level
In FY25, the government found ₹2.23 lakh crore worth of GST not paid (tax evasion).
This is the highest ever and 10% more than last year (₹2.02 lakh crore in FY24).
In FY23, evasion was only ₹1.01 lakh crore — so it has more than doubled in two years.
2. Voluntary Payments by Taxpayers
Some businesses voluntarily paid back their due taxes.
Total voluntary payment in FY25 = ₹28,909 crore.
3. Finance Minister’s Directives
At the CBIC Conclave (held in New Delhi), FM Nirmala Sitharaman gave key directions:
Close investigations quickly in Customs and GST fraud cases.
Take strict action against tax evaders.
Make GST registration easier and faster.
Improve grievance redressal — help taxpayers resolve their issues on time.
4. Focus on Stronger Tax Enforcement
FM stressed the need for tight control and better monitoring.
The goal is to reduce tax cheating and make the GST system more efficient and fair.
